Another story of a gift that will truly make a difference — from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
Gerard Pritchard, 16, a sophomore at Fairport High School, donated his wheelchair and walker to Alberto Rodriguez, 8. Like Alberto, Gerard was diagnosed at birth with spina bifida, a congenital defect of the spinal cord. The teenager is doing well physically.
"I'm really happy (to help), especially because it's the holiday season," he said.
The Spina Bifida Association in Rochester is thrilled that Alberto received a wheelchair, said Mary Pritchard, Gerard's mother and chairwoman of the group, which has more than 200 members. She enrolled the Rodriguezes as members and said the group has money available to help with medical expenses.
"We passed along the article, and I got a huge number of responses of people wanting to help," Pritchard said.
